Appointment Marks the Next Phase of Growth Following HyperSpectral’s Oversubscribed $15.5 Combined Series A-1 and A-2 Rounds

ALEXANDRIA, VA (December 10, 2025) – HyperSpectral, the world’s first AI-powered spectral intelligence company, today announced the appointment of Dr. Rob Donofrio as Chief Life Science Officer. Donofrio will guide life-science strategy uniting advanced AI with data from the physical world into high-impact applications across biotechnology, industrial microbiology, and public health.

HyperSpectral’s proprietary platform integrates advanced AI with multi-modal sensory inputs to deliver rapid, repeatable, high-accuracy data within minutes. The platform is hardware-agnostic, easy to deploy in any setting, and designed to scale across mission-critical environments where trust, speed, and accuracy matter. The company’s breakthrough software, SpecAI™, was trained to decode complex, multi-modal spectroscopic datasets, enabling faster and more confident scientific and operational decisions.

HyperSpectral is currently focused on high-impact, high-value use cases that benefit most from minimum time to actionable data, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR), where rapid, repeatable detection can be lifesaving, and Process Analytical Technology (PAT), where real-time insights can transform bioprocessing and manufacturing.

Donofrio brings more than two decades of scientific leadership experience, most recently serving in senior roles at Neogen and NSF International. He has directed globally distributed R&D and validation teams, advanced breakthrough detection technologies through regulatory pathways, and authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He currently serves as President of the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. A recognized expert in AI-enabled laboratory science, Donofrio has been an early champion of integrating machine learning, automated data interpretation, and enhanced workflows to accelerate microbial testing and industrial discovery.

“As we scale our SpecAI™ platform into new life-science markets, Rob’s appointment is a major milestone,” said Matt Theurer, CEO of HyperSpectral. “Rob understands how to bring transformational technologies into regulated, high-stakes environments. His experience building and validating next-generation detection systems will be invaluable as we expand our platform’s reach across AMR, biomanufacturing, clinical research, and public health applications.”

In his new role, Donofrio will lead product development and validation across HyperSpectral’s life-science segments, guide regulatory positioning and the integration of Spectral Intelligence into laboratory and industrial workflows, expand commercial, academic, and regulatory partnerships, and shape the company’s scientific roadmap as the platform advances toward a multi-sensor, real-time intelligence system.

“I’m honored to join HyperSpectral at this pivotal moment,” said Donofrio. “The convergence of advanced AI with real-time sensory data will redefine how laboratories, regulators, and industry detect, characterize, and respond to biological risks. HyperSpectral’s platform is uniquely positioned to accelerate discovery and deliver the speed, accuracy and reliability that these sectors urgently need.”

Donofrio holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Michigan Technological University, an M.S. in Microbiology from Duquesne University, and a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Dayton.
